The Athens University of Economics and Business – MBA International and the AUEB Energy & Sustainability Club organized the 1st conference “Doing Business in Energy: Challenges & Opportunities in Greece”. The event took place on Monday 23rd of April 2012, at the Royal Olympic Hotel, in Athens with great success.
A series of presentations were made by distinguished speakers who discussed issues that are on the top of the agenda regarding energy in Greece today, such as the deregulated energy market, the future of the oil and gas market, renewable energy sources, energy & transportation, energy investments and venture capitals.
The conference started with the speech of the ex Deputy Minister of Environment, Energy & Climate Change, Dr. Yiannis Maniatis who presented the energy prospects in Greece and the latest developments regarding hydrocarbon exploration & exploitation in Greece. Prof. George Ioannou, Director of AUEB MBA International from the academic and business community was one of the speakers actively supporting the MBA Energy Club. “Energy is the driving factor of every economy, the necessary basis for the evolution of our societies”, Prof. George Ioannou states.
Other prominent speakers were experienced senior level executives from the Energy sector including Mr. Dimitris Georgantonis, C.E.O. of HERON S.A., Dr. Dimitris Dimitriou Chairman of the BoD & Managing Director of the Athens Urban Transport Organization, Mr. George Spyrou, Director of TERNA Energy, Mr. Ioannis Papadopoulos C.E.O. of Attica Ventures and Mrs. Maria Kartalou Principal Consultant at the Boston Consulting Group.
It was a unique opportunity to “bring together business executives, academics and students, to promote the sharing of knowledge and to pave the way so that ideas can turn into actions”. The aim of the conference was succeeded attracting nearly 150 participants giving the opportunity to exchange opinions, discussing and networking. The reactions of the participants were of great appreciation.
